Effects of Diet Pills on Dogs

Diet pills are medicines that are used to control excess body weight by altering normal human body operations like appetite or absorption of fats. Not all human medications can be administered to pets like dogs. Some medicines are extremely poisonous and can either cause illness or death of the dog. Statistically, the following medicines have been listed as the most hazardous ones that may harm your dog.

Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen. In humans, it is used to treat the inflammation effects of arthritis. If the medicine is given to dogs, it can cause the failure of the kidney and ulcers of the stomach which may eventually kill a dog. Tramadol. It can be administered to both humans and pets alike. However, for dogs, a prescription from a qualified veterinarian is preferred for a correct dose to be given. Where a dog is given an overdose, it will experience sedation, vomits, wobbling etc.

Effects of Diet Pills on Dogs

Cough medicines. The medicine contains dextromethorphan substances which if administered in excess can result in other complications. The drug will cause hallucination, more salivation, even death if the level of toxicity is high. There are other diet pills that are having effects on animals. They include alprazolam, Adderall, zolpidem, and others. Administration of these drugs to pets like dogs should be done after consulting a qualified veterinarian to avoid harming the dogs.
